Description

This curriculum is based on the educational philosophy and writings of Charlotte Mason, who based all learning on self-discovery, living books, notebooking, and learning through experiencing.

In Buds, Blooms & Bees, every lesson contains a reading from the Burgess Flower Book, an additional short botany reading from Trees, Leaves, Flowers & Seeds, a vocabulary card (when applicable), a video link to a wholesome Youtube video that explains something learned in the lesson in more detail (so children can see the flowers and science in action), a picture book reading (with links/QR codes to video read alouds of the book when available), and a notebooking prompt (when applicable).

Additionally, to make the learning more hands-on and bring the concepts to life, about every other lesson includes an activity. Some activities are more traditional science experiments like dissecting a flower, learning how water travels through the veins of a leaf, or watching oxygen form on a leaf. Other activities are fun ways for children to interact with flowers such as making playdough, making paint out of petals, or making a flower bookmark.

What ages is this for?

This guide is designed for kindergarten through sixth grade, but it can be adapted for older and younger children to truly be family-style. The Teacher Guide includes extension activity ideas for older children, and many of the activities can be enjoyed by toddlers and preschoolers as well.

How long does a lesson take?

This curriculum is designed to present a feast for your children. I provided the feast and you choose which dishes to partake in. It is a very robust curriculum, but designed to take about 15-30 minutes most lessons, with an additional 15-30 minutes on activity days. You can easily adapt each lesson to fit your family's needs!

This is no dry, dull science curriculum! Science comes to life through not only the core Flower Book but also 42 living picture books!
