- Nature Display - We have a set of three of these my girls use to hold the rocks, seeds, cicada shells, and other interesting things they find out in nature!
- Homeschool Books - We have a few homeschool books but our favorites to read on the first day of school are Mama, Why Am I Homeschooled? and This Is My Home, This is My School
- Fun Water Bottle - If you haven't upgraded water bottles in a while, it can be fun to start the year frest with a fun heavy-duty water bottle!
- Personalized Tote Bag - These bags are great for things like church, co-op, sports, extra-curriculars, or just to keep their school items in!
- Large Craft Trays - We LOVE our craft trays and use them every day. They are amazing at containing all kinds of messes and make saying "yes" a lot easier to their crafty ideas!
- Yoto Mini Player - My girls each have a Yoto Mini Player and use them to listen to read alouds and music during quiet time, before bed, during lunch as a family, during long car rides, and even for some of our school readings from time to time!
- Stationery - We like to incoporate letter-writing into our homeschool week, so having fun stationery on hand makes my kids more eager (and less reluctant) to practice their writing skills.
- Roll-Up Pencil Pouch - We have one of these pouches in our nature hike backpack for nature journaling on the go!
- History Timeline Notebook - You could start one of these as a family or get one for each child. They can add to it over the years and get a good sense of history using this visual aid.
- Headphones - Headphones are great for so many things in our house - listening to their Yotos in the car or around others, plugging into our electronic piano during quiet times (or when I get to my limit of audio input), doing school lessons on the computer, etc.
- Sewing Kit - Giving your kids a sewing kit or other handicraft kit can be a great way for them to learn a new skill and/or to keep their hands busy during read aloud time!
- Digital Microscope - Our kids are obsessed with this digital microscope. You can take it on the go with you since it doesn't have to sit on its mount and the image is so crystal clear!
- Gel Pens - Why not add some fun writing utensils they can pull out every once in a while to make doing their school work a little more fun!
- School-Themed Outfit - I got my girls a school-themed dress last year for the first day of school and it was the cutest thing ever!
- Fun Pencil Pouch - You could give each child a fun pencil pouch to keep their favorite writing utensils in so no more fighting (at least over those particular items . . .).
- Flower Press - My girls love pressing flowers and four-leaf clovers in our flower press!
- Sensory Bin - Younger kids would love a sensory bin and it gives them something to do while you are reading aloud or working with your older kids.
I hope you enjoyed these ideas! I'm not sure which one I'm going to pick yet! I do know I will be making a bundt cake, which is our tradition for every first day of school. I can't wait!
